Bed bugs are parasitic insects that feed exclusively on blood every 5 to 7 days. They feed and gorge on mostly humans while we are at our deepest sleep. Our carbon dioxide "when we breathe" and the heat that we produce is what bed bugs are attracted to. Nymphs "young bed bugs" need to immediately feed. With each blood meal they molt "shed their skin" and grow a little bigger. They molt 5 times before becoming an adult, mating and reproducing.

BED BUGS FRESNO
An adult bed bug is about a ¼” long and oval shaped. They are light brown to reddish-brown, flattened and have no hind wings. Once engorged with blood they become plump and elongated, barely able to walk. Nymph’s, baby bed bugs, are translucent and nearly invisible with the naked eye. It usually takes a trained professional to spot a nymph. After their first blood meal nymph’s have a brown to bright red spot in their abdomen.
Bed bugs hide in cracks and crevices during the day only to come out to feed at night, usually between 10 pm to 6 am. A typical feeding (blood meal) is every five to ten days and lasts three to ten minutes. Bed bugs usually stay in close proximity of their host, usually only five to ten feet away. Infestation signs are dark fecal matter, molted skin, new and old white egg shells, along with resident bed bugs.
